The author of Alice takes listeners back down the rabbit hole to a dark, twisted, and fascinating world based on the works of Lewis Carroll.
The land outside of the Old City was supposed to be green, lush, hopeful. A place where Alice could finally rest, no longer the plaything of the Rabbit, the pawn of Cheshire, or the prey of the Jabberwocky. But the verdant fields are nothing but ash - and hope is nowhere to be found.
Still, Alice and Hatcher are on a mission to find his daughter, a quest they will not forsake even as it takes them deep into the clutches of the mad White Queen and her goblin or into the realm of the twisted and cruel Black King. The pieces are set, and the game has already begun. Each move brings Alice closer to her destiny. But to win she will need to harness her newfound abilities and ally herself with someone even more powerful - the mysterious and vengeful Red Queen.

After my revisit of Alice, I went straight into the Red Queen. This one has a little bit more of a Through the Looking Glass feel. I know a lot of people don’t realize there are actually two books; there are and they each have a different set of characters. I listened to both of the original books years ago, so I do remember some of the differences.
As you can probably guess, this story revolves around the Red Queen, White Queen and Black King. This story was not as gruesome as the first book. This one Hatcher and Alice leave the city to search for Hatcher’s daughter. This story is more of a quest or adventure story. It is still a dark story, just not as much as Alice. I have to say that while I enjoyed this story, I enjoyed Alice more.
There is one more book that is an anthology of shorter stories set in this world. I will be checking it out for sure.
Narration:
Jenny Sterlin continues to do a wonderful job with the narration. I get lost in the story when listening to her. She is the voice of Alice in my head.
